Fishing Tackle Fishhook

Visiting the Keys and shark fishing

If you visit the Keys and love to fish, but no cash flow to hire a guide for several days. (Like me, fishing $ 400 – $ 800 a day guided no way I could afford to fish anywhere you go by what I need to satisfy me)

Of course, if your heart is in the catch sailfish, bonefish, permit, etc … frankly if your heart is set on catching fish, I suggest you take a guide. The waters of the keys are large and may have some serious knowledge to capture some of the most sought after fish.

But anyway if you is not afraid to take a boat into uncharted waters, bait your own hook, land, fish, and the risk of passing on a curse, then something might want to try is fishing for shark,

Sharks are everywhere in the Keys: weak large, small nurse shark bull shark aggressive, are all over the place.

They are silent and aggressive eaters, and even greater fear of boats. No fear, and not in line shy. In essence, they are the ideal fish to try to catch if you're new to saltwater fishing or keys.

Now, you can try this from a land bridge or somewhere, but I recommend renting a boat. There are many places you can rent a boat in the Keys. It does not really matter what size the boat is another thing that is good for fishing sharks around here is that sharks are a stone's throw from the bank (unlike in New York I come).

The first thing you need is CHUM. Sharks hunted mainly by smell and have been known to swim miles along the scent trail. Best of CHUM sharks is fresh fish, the bloodiest of the highest quality.

Where to find fresh fish, and if you ask a local, they say just take a barracuda … From my experience, this is not always easy. If the fish on the reef there are tons of barracudas hanging, but in most waters near the coast, although there is still a lot of barracuda, which seem to be a little more hip people and their bad intentions, especially the great barracuda.

So basically, do not want to base your trip simply fill in her back from her boyfriend when you leave the coast, at least if you're a beginner.

What I suggest is to make the CHUM in advance and the best way is to find a party boat that has just arrive and the second offers a bit of money to give the remains when performing cleaning their catch. So far, I've never had a partner to say no, but if they do, or if they catch a bad day can also go to a fish market. You can usually get the fish head / channel bonito (What is fish as bloody tuna) for approximately 50 cents per pound. If you wish to purchase a good travel a lot, like trying to get a whole 5 gallon bucket full before out.

You can be the dog in a bag of CHUM or simply pull the rope through the back and head hanging to one side.
Now, where to go.

The many places you can go, but I try to avoid high traffic areas. If you are in Oceanside, chumming at the end of apartments appears it works. In fact what often seems to attract the sharks that are huge. But sometimes take a long time to appear. The best chance we had is in the search along the Bay for over open water. Chumming in the small sounds around Cayo Largo has not been particularly effective, but the use of priming Bay side of the bridge 7 miles has hordes of sharks.

If you put enough blood in the water almost everywhere something finally appears, but it can sometimes take several hours for a shark to appear. Often, when they will be more than one, and you never know what will appear. Just a couple pounds of hat head 2 feet half a dozen of 200, more monsters.

For bait, a fish head operation of the thin piece of fish or blood, but half of a living thing even works better. Once you have a great friend in the water, you should get more visitors. taken live, blue runners, barracuda small pinfish all to make good decisions for sharks.

You can free online bait on the bottom or put it under a cork or a balloon, which, under proper conditions is very clear because it looks on the surface and get shark bait.
Ok now to combat

This is difficult. In the bay of the address would be perfect is something that takes a few hundred yards from line 12 of the book for quite frankly the sky is the limit. I have found that certain something that holds about 220 -280 meters from the line of 30 pounds seems to work very small, but even so, some fish tail me. 50-pound test braid works well for medium-sized sharks, but the elderly may require more test 70-100 pounds.

Leader. Obviously you need steel leader in shark fishing. For the shark bit a couple of feet of leader is good, but if you're fishing for something else that needs a lot of head and a heavy head, like 3 or 4 times the book test mono. So, as the line 30 or # 90 # leader. Sharks can break the line by whipping his tail, so basically you should have more then leader of the length you fish for sharks. This can be a real sore issue, but that's life.

For the hooks, use circle hooks, are sold everywhere. If you have never used hooks circular before, they look kind of ridiculous, but work hard. Leaving the shark with the toll-free to run about 3-5 seconds, depending on the size the bait. Then just lock freedom bail, and lean back and right swivel hook on the lips.

If you have any questions please post them here and I respond as best I can
